BMW Malaysia has officially teased the arrival of the G01 BMW X3, just days after a camouflaged unit was spotted in the country. The G01 was first revealed globally back in June 2017, and succeeds the second-generation F25 that has been around since 2010 (LCI update in 2014).

Those looking forward to the new X3 can register their interest at a dedicated page on the company’s official website, but so far, details in terms of specifications are well and truly scarce. However, our previous sighting of the model did provide a few hints as to what to expect.

For starters, the X3 could come with the Luxury Design kit and a set of 19-inch LMR double-spoke Style 696 wheels. The former features chrome side window trim and grille slats, along with silver skid plates, side mouldings and fog lamp enclosure trim.

We also see a pair of standard full-LED headlamps instead of higher-spec adaptive units, and a lack of sensors/cameras beside the rear view mirror. The latter bit likely indicates the BMW Driving Assistant Plus suite of safety and driver assist systems will not be available.

Under the bonnet, the X3 should come with the sDrive20i powertrain that consists of a 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder (184 hp/290 Nm) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is not known if a diesel variant will be offered, as is the case with the F25.

The evolved design includes cues such as larger kidney grilles at the front that are no longer linked with the headlamps, plus a bolder front bumper. Smaller taillights are also part of the revisions and there’s also an Air Breather element just aft of the front wheels.

With the new X3 set to be launched, find out more about the SUV model in our review of the M40i in Portugal. Will you choose the X3 over the Mercedes-Benz GLC that starts at RM288,888 (OTR without insurance) for the GLC 200? There’s also the matter of the Volvo XC60, where the range starts at RM298,888 for the T5 Momentum.
