Special editions farewell current-generation off-roader
Jeep has announced two limited-run JK Wrangler specials for Australia, designed to send the now-replaced off-roader into extinction on a high.
A total of 270 units will be offered Down Under – 150 Golden Eagles, and 120 Freedom Editions. What’s unique about them? We’re getting there…
Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle
Named to reference a classic Wrangler special edition, the Golden Eagle runs with a modernised graphics pack, a tan-coloured soft top, body-coloured fenders and bronze aluminium wheels. It also gets a black grille and headlight rings, along with a set of rock rails.
Inside, there’s a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Alpine speakers, along with bronze-stitched front seats adorned with a Golden Eagle lettering. Vinyl has been used for the front armrests and centre console, while there are ‘Moroccan Sun’ painted accents on the passenger grab handle, steering wheel bezel and air-conditioning rings.
Power comes from the same 3.6-litre V6 offered in the standard Wrangler, hooked up to a choice of six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
The special-edition will be offered in two- and four-door configurations, priced from $42,990 before on-road costs.
- Wrangler Golden Eagle two-door manual: $42,990
Wrangler Golden Eagle four-door manual: $47,490
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition
Jeep is never afraid to highlight the Wrangler’s military background, so the Freedom Edition should come as no surprise. While we’re at it, is there a more American name than Freedom Edition? Nope, we didn’t think so either.
The military-themed special gains ‘Granite Crystal’ alloy wheels and a grille painted to match, along with black grille inserts and headlight rings. Instead of black, the fender flares are finished in body colour, while there are rock rails and a ‘premium’ soft top as well.
As you can probably see, there are special graphics on the bonnet and rear three-quarter panel. The trail rated badge is finished in green, along with a special ‘Oscar Mike’ badge.
Inside, the seats are trimmed in McKinley leather, vinyl and cloth combination, complete with accent stitching and embossed headrests. Iron Grey has been used to paint the interior highlights, barring the Satin Chrome steering wheel highlights.
