The American president Donald Trump, in the April visit of the French president Emmanuel Macron, took a hard look at German car manufacturers and in particular Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz.

According to the German magazine Wirtschaftswoche, Trump does not want to see Mercedes cars drive anymore New York. Sources among American and European diplomats say Trump closes the door for Daimler, BMW and Audi on the American market. He would be greatly annoyed by the large amount of Mercedes that he sees in the expensive shopping street Fifth Avenue in New York.

The United States is currently investigating import duties on European cars up to 25 percent. Washington refers to the state security of the US and protecting its own car industry. Trump would have said to Macron that he would continue his trade policy until there were no Mercedes cars on Fifth Avenue.

They are rumors, so there are some grains of salt perhaps in their place, but if Trump wants to keep Mercedes out, he does well to exclude certain models. For example, the C-class, GLE-class and GLS-class are built in the American Vance, Alabama. BMW, Audi and several other German brands also maintain production facilities in the US.
