So when I learned that Ukraine has started sales of the updated Renault Duster, and we have to wait at least another six months, immediately found a kindred spirit who owns the current Duster and we went to the city on the Dnieper…

Yes, in fact, that we’re willing each other to deceive ourselves. But only in words. Belarusian car market will never be the same. The way it was in the 1990s and the first decade of the XXI century. You can refer to a sharp increase in customs duties in 2011, but I guess: if they had not happened, the number "state employees" Russian Assembly on our roads would be a multiple of the smaller. Felt it would better our dealers, they would retain a wide model series – the big question. But that on our roads there would be more "species" diversity, I’m sure.

However, history does not know subjunctive mood: we are in the top ten best-selling models by year-end 2017 9 models, which can be attributed to conditional class "state employees" among them are Duster.

But these cars are not buying because the media write more about them – the pattern here is the opposite: we write about them, because these models attract the attention and wallets of buyers. Sad that do me? Am I sorry about the time on country roads you can see cars for every taste and color? Yes. But is that a reason not to write about cars, who buy thousands of Belarusians? Of course not.

If you share my view that Belarus in the development of their automotive culture has been abandoned in the past, consider that I looked back to the future. Because the updated Duster will appear on our market only in 2019, but some conclusions can be drawn already now. So, I will try to answer all pertinent questions regarding the updated model.

Duster prettier in appearance?

Yes and no. Duster is built on "Logan" platform, and it is unlikely in its appearance in the nearest future something will change radically, the overall silhouette will remain the same for a long time. But this time, due to a seemingly small touches the designers have been great to freshen up the crossover.

First, it changed the shape of the hood, and the headlights appeared LED-strip daytime running lights. Changed filesresearch radiator: by the way, it differs from what we saw on the European version of the crossover. Unfortunately, the large cell honeycomb remained at the top of the bumper and at the bottom. Probably the majority of owners will rush to install an additional grid.

Secondly, there was the plastic lining on the front fenders. At first glance, no functional purpose they have, but I dare say that they are great to help out those "gasteropoda" that use the car off road: some no, but protection from the hard twigs in the forest.

Thanks to the new lights, which by design are strongly reminiscent of the Jeep Renegade, behind new Duster however, with nothing to confuse. For my taste in the present "Russian" the crossover they look more organic, but with the awareness of a new car, you will have no problems.

Unequivocal praiseworthy plastic door sill covers. In the old Duster they had nodules, about you every time when landing-the landing was dirty. Here lining look, perhaps not so "rich" but from the point of view of functionality there’s no more questions.

Second "feat" Interterminal – multimedia system slightly turned to the driver, she moved a little higher, whereby the unit climate control has also risen. First, it’s just beautiful, and secondly, comfortable. No longer need to fumble somewhere in the region of the handle KP to set the desired temperature. By the way, Duster first got though, and a simple single-band, but full climate control. Test day in Kiev reached +24°C, and it seemed to us that the air conditioning system is configured as it should: put the temperature at 20 and forgotten, not heard the fans screamed, he felt, to some frost, while others are barely blowing. Some budget models have problems with the uniformity of distribution of air streams.

By the way, do the air ducts in "Ukrainian" Duster different from those "kruglyashey" that applied in the European Dacia. And there is a suspicion that "Russian" machine chose "chrome" rectangles.

Car owners of previous generation know well that sitting in it is not the most comfortable. And the bottom cushion a bit short, and lateral support is lacking, and waist cushion "no". The new Duster received more comfortable seats, which are not only elongated cushion, but also improved the profile itself. Interestingly, in "Ukrainian" Duster even "top speed" may not be leather, and "Russian" it is impossible to refuse, and it’s sad: according to Andrew Barashko, Director Holiday.by and part of the owner of such machine, with which we went to Kiev in the summer of leatherette creates a lot of inconvenience.

Cons? French ergonomic quirks not done – apparently, I leave the field for further improvements. The activation button is the cruise control located under "handbrake" and heated seats – in "blind" the area to the left of the bottom cushion. The socket for 12 volts was placed inside the niche in front of the gearshift lever, but left only one place for cupholders. In General, a controversial decision.

As for ride quality, just a few minor touches have dramatically changed the behavior of the crossover. First, the Duster has become tougher, which is especially felt on the bumpy road even mid-priced. At first we thought to chalk it all up to a difference in tires or different origin (our car has been winter "scandinavi"): travel day on the roads of Kyiv, unequivocally declare: to reconfigure the suspension. The same is noted and our Ukrainian colleagues, who, unlike us before the arrival of the new Duster has dealt with the pre-reform machine Romanian Assembly.

The important thing is that Duster now no swims on the road, no wild vertical swing on a large wave. I’m sure 99% of that energy consumption is not affected by this: how we tried to break the suspension, nothing came of it.

Second, in steering for the first time in the history model has electric power steering. From now on, when manoeuvring in town, you don’t feel like a truck driver, and with a retuned suspension, the Duster became well to keep straight.

As for off-road capacity, in the securities of Duster has remained the same: the angle of entry did not change (30 degrees) and departure angle is so reduced that hardly you can feel it (was 34.9, was 33 degrees). The more ground clearance remained the same impressive 210 mm.

In our test, visited the front-drive version "robot" so fight with our machine (with "mechanics" and the all-wheel drive) could not be in principle. Because that’s what all of this turned "the duster" in the car without serious mistakes.
